Adventurer Rebecca Grim and Conservationist Leonie Mahlke paddled the Inside Passage, a network of coastal waterways in the Pacific Northwest, to meet women fighting to protect the coast. They kayaked for four months, from Salt Spring Island in British Columbia, Canada, to Glacier Bay in Alaska. This is their video preview and it’s nothing short of awesome!

An honor recently to meet Rebecca Grim in person and Leonie Mahlke (via Skype from Germany) at a special presentation in Nanaimo! paddlingnorth.com Two very inspirational young adventurers, helping to raise awareness for the British Columbia coast!
There she is in the background and I finally got to step foot on her. The infamous and formidable Brooks Peninsula! The Crown Jewel of Vancouver Island sea kayaking! This has long been a dream of mine. My time there was only short but surely I will return to her south sides and northern regions. Maybe someday maybe even the outer points. It’s a World onto it’s own out there. “The Brooks”… Read More

This past weekend we were greeted by members of the Surfrider Foundation (Vancouver Island) at Rugged Point. After a long 21 km paddle from Fair Harbour we were invited to their camp for spaghetti and the warmth of a campfire. J.F., James, Lynn, “Chico” and the whole gang had been out at Rugged Point for several days cleaning up the beaches. I applaud their continued efforts and am grateful for their hospitality…. There’s nothing quite like the inspiration that comes from connecting to nature. In fact, David Strayer, a cognitive psychologist at the University of Utah found that a “three-day effect” of being outside for 72 hours gives your prefrontal cortex (the brain’s command center) a big rest, allowing your senses to recalibrate and improving your creative problem-solving ability by around 50 percent. In short, being outside has amazing health benefits. So, if you’re riding… Read More
