A picture of me, standing proud in a remote estuary deep in the heart of “The Great Bear Rainforest.” I had the distinct privilege of being an assistant to our lead guide on a few different occasions.  Thank you to my friend Andy Silver for taking and sending this image. Between May 15th – May 25th I again had the honor of exploring Canada’s Great Bear Rainforest and sharing some pretty incredible moments with Grizzly Bears. I continue to be amazed by these majestic animals and their graceful sense of power. It’s reassuring to know that these animals can no longer be hunted for trophy’s in the province of British Columbia.

Very sad news – Alberta naturalist, Charlie Russell passed away on the 7th. Just 4 days earlier, as I sailed through “The Great Bear Rainforest” I spent some time looking through one of Charlie’s books which was on board: cbc.ca/…/charlie-russell-alberta-bear-expert-dies-1.4653404

I am honored and very excited! My dear friends Eric Boyum and Trish Boyum from Ocean Adventures have invited me to work with them on their vessel, The Great Bear II in mid May as they take guests on an 8 day tour called “Inlets of the Grizzly / Great Bear Rainforest.” In 2011 I first met Eric and Trish and traveled to “The GBR” as their guest. It was an incredible… Read More

Grizzly Bears in particular haven’t had many friends over the last couple of hundred years. Thankfully, on December 18th the BC NDP Government became one and ended this atrocious trophy hunting fiasco once and for all. I do not necessarily support any one given political party but I certainly do support this legislation and I applaud those elected to office for making a humane decision. This is certainly cause to celebrate this… Read More

It was an honor to meet up with acclaimed Canadian Wildlife and Nature Photographer John E. Marriott in Calgary recently. I received a signed copy of John’s new book – Tall Tales – Long Lenses which chronicles his journey as a photographer. Check out John’s website here: wildernessprints.com

There’s still some concerns perhaps but for the most part this is a HUGE VICTORY! Regardless of political affiliation, those who love wildlife have to agree! I applaud all those involved in helping to make this a reality! Read more about this here: cbc.ca/…/plan-to-end-grizzly-trophy-hunting-in-bc-announced-1.4247060

…Black Bear or Grizzly? What do you think?

As mentioned in an earlier post, one of my Grizzly Bear images will be featured in Norm’s ongoing presentations to help raise awareness for the Great Bear Rainforest. I’m very proud of this affiliation and I applaud Norm’s efforts. In 2010 standup paddle boarder Norm Hann, along with sea kayaker Brian Huntington of the Skeena Watershed Conservation Coalition, paddled the proposed oil tanker route 400km from Kitimat to Bella Bella. The goal… Read More
